Important, yo!

due to a scheduling conflict at the Knitting Factory, Hip Hop Karaoke has been moved to Sunday, February 18th. we apologize to anyone that can't make it out on the 18th... i assure you, this one was out of our control.

before you say, "what?!?? SUNDAY!!?"... understand that the following Monday is President's Day... which means banks are closed, you won't be getting any mail, and you probably won't be going to work. so all of a sudden, Sunday night is a party night.

Hip Hop Karaoke
Sunday, Feb 18th, 2007

please HELP by spreading the word and letting people know of the date change... we really appreciate it....

also, we were able to snag a historic date for the March edition of HHK... Friday, March 9th.

let me know if you have any questions.

note to self... avoid plains.

check out the big news story in the former Prez's hometown, Plains, GA here:

http://www.allhiphop.com/hiphopnews/?ID=6632

my favorite part of the article is the last line, "As for Plains, the town's attorney, Jimmy Skipper, revealed that he hasn't explored the legality of the ban."

right. awesome.

R.I.P. Disco D

"Dave Shayman (aka Disco D) was found dead this morning of an apparent suicide. He was 27 years old."

You used to destroy it at Filter 14 back in the day, man.

50 Cent (Produced by Disco D) - "Ski Mask Way"

New Album of the Week Feature

Just a heads up that starting today, one of the HHK crew begins a weekly feature on URB.com (the home of hip-hop/rock/electronic/hipster music URB Magazine) cleverly titled "Album of the Week." Need new music? Check URB every Monday morning for a new album with links to Myspace page, samples etc. It won't always be hip-hop, but it'll always be good.

HHK Pics - Online and On Sale!

HHK pics from December and January are online now. Go HERE for 'em. Apologies for the delay but we think you'll agree they're worth the wait.

Also, our trusty photographer Rick Purcell, aka the guy with the camera feverishly running around Knitting Factory every month, is selling selected 8 x 10 photos of January's shots. Now you can memorialize your HHK performance in your apartment or give a gift to your moms proving you conquered that little stagefright problem.

You can get 'em by going HERE.

If you have any questions or would like to request prints of any other photos appearing on the HHK website, please email Rick at rick@hiphopkaraokenyc.com.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Kids With Cameras, a not-for-profit organization created to help the children featured in the 2005 documentary Born Into Brothels through sales of their photographs. So do something good for somebody and grab one, ya heartless soul!

Next HHK: Thursday, Feb. 22. Don't sleep.

a big congrats to the winner of our "name that tunes" game, Naim, who correctly identified all three songs for the grand prize of 2 tickets to the upcoming Slick Rick show in February. dope!

and also a big thank you to all of you who came out on friday night to one of, if not our best, edition of HHK at the Knitting Factory. you all killed it. from obscure joints like "rock co.kane flow" to hard performances like "shook ones"... everybody slammed it. including digs.

our next edition of HHK will be at the Knitting Factory on February 22nd. it's a Thursday night ya'll... so we bumped up the times an hour... for all of you who have to be up early the next day for "work". 9pm signup, 10pm show.

for all of you who are looking for the pics... they'll be up on the site on Tuesday (for dec and jan).

sorry for the delay.

peace!

DJ You Don't Know Mixes 800 Songs You Do

I got some minor issues with this one -- particularly the talking every 3 seconds part -- but still worth a post. This DJ mixes 800 classic songs in 48 minutes. How do I know there are really 800? I don't. But it's a lot. See how many songs from our song list you can spot.

800 Classics in 48 Minutes (From Idolator)

And someone who either has WAAAAAYYYY too much free time or is the Rainman of hip-hop posted the tracklisting HERE.
