Wow... what a night...

Man... What a show at Southpaw.

With turkey day right around the corner, its only right that we start this blog entry off by giving thanks. Thank you to the judges (Dallas Penn, Phylicia Fant, and Lil Daddy Shane) for being so gracious with their time on Friday night. Thank you to the audience for coming out in really wet, miserable weather. And most of all, thank you to the performers. You guys really brought your "A" games.

From top to bottom, there really wasn't a bad performance all night... And the judges scoring reflected that... 1 point was the difference between a number of people advancing or heading home.

And if there was a theme song to this evening, it would be Queen Latifah's "Ladies First", as the top two scores for the evening were by the fairer sex. So congrats to Damali and Jessica. Not only were they the top two, but Damali nailed the first ever Hip Hop Karaoke perfect score. The roof damn nearly caved in.

As for the gents, we'd like to congratulate Diego, Charlie, Thomas, and Santiago for advancing as well. These 6, plus last years champion, Chef, have already advanced to the finals on January 29th at Irving Plaza (GET YOUR TICKETS NOW FROM US WITH NO TICKETMASTER SURCHARGE BULLSH*T! THIS WILL SELL OUT LIKE LAST YEAR. AND ITS A HELLA GOOD TIME. EMAIL US DIRECTLY AND HOOK YOU UP WE SHALL).

We still have 5 more spots available. Those will be decided on December 4th at Mercury Lounge in NYC (I have a feeling this night is going to be even crazier).

And then the countdown will begin to HHK Championship 2!

Stay tuned to the blog, championship website (hhkchampionship.com), and our twitter account for the latest updates.

You know what we always say people:

This is Hip Hop like it used to be... Hip Hop like it oughta be.

HHK Brooklyn Regionals Are in the Books

A big thank you to everyone who came out over the weekend to the Hip Hop Karaoke Brooklyn Regional Championships.

A bigger thank you to everyone who performed and took a shot at the title.

A biggest thank you to outspoken hip-hop blogger Dallas Penn, Universal Motown guru Phylicia Fant, and sideman extraordinaire Lil Daddy Shane for judging the contest and giving everyone their own unique perspectives on each performance.

We'll have pics up shortly, but congratulations to Charlie, Damali (perfect score!), Diego, Jessica, Santiago and Thomas for advancing to the next round. For anyone unable to come, you still have your chance to make it to the January 29th finals at Irving Plaza at the Manhattan Regionals at Mercury Lounge on Friday, Dec. 4.

HHK Video Submission Winners Announced

First off, let us say a big "thank you" to everyone who submitted a video for the Regionals on November 13 @ Southpaw and December 4 @ Mercury Lounge. We received a lot of truly excellent entries but in the end, only four could prevail. So congratulations to:

Nick Gayle
Casey Neumann
Fine Tune
Dan McGee

who have all earned automatic passes to the regional events and the shot at moving on to Hip Hop Karaoke Championship II January 29th at Irving Plaza. Don't forget: if you didn't win the video contest, you can still roll through to either/both of the regionals and compete for the chance to make it to the stage.

Congrats, guys and we'll see you all Friday.

Y'all Brought Your A-Game

The video submission contest for automatic entry in the HHK Regionals has now ended and we just wanted to thank everyone who sent in their submission. I know this will sound like some sycophantic smoke up the @$$ but there really wasn't a bad one in the bunch. The HHK Crew has the unenviable task of having to decide the winners over the weekend. Check back here on Monday to see who won and remember, even if you don't win, you can still come through anyway for another chance at competing for the championships.

Have a good weekend and we leave you with the Wu-Note Project, which sees some dude re-imagining Wu's albums as classic Blue Note covers. Dope.

Video Submissions for HHK Regionals Due This Friday!

You already know about our upcoming Regionals and Hip Hop Karaoke Championship, right?

Brooklyn - Nov 13 - Southpaw
Manhattan - Dec 4 - Mercury Lounge

So you could sign up for a track and hope you're one of 10 people randomly picked out of a hat to perform

OR

increase your chances by sending us a link to an original video of you performing one of the songs from our list to

video[at]hiphopkaraokenyc[dot]com

along with your name and contact info (If you have the instrumental, great. If not, you can rhyme over the vocals. No a capellas though and no lyric sheets to help you.).

Either send us a video of you performing at a past karaoke (doesn't have to be ours) or make your own and send it to us.

Four winners will be chosen (two each event) for automatic entry in the regionals. The deadline for all video submissions is this Friday, November 6 at 5:00 p.m. and you MUST be available on both Nov. 13 and Dec. 4 to qualify. Winners will be announced on our blog the week of November 9th.

And don't forget: if you're not one of the video winners, you can still take a shot by signing up night of show.

So keep those submissions coming and check the blog for the latest.
