Yo I actually got nervous for a hot second. Wex and Digs got the venue to turn off the fuckin' lights on stage while the intro played. And people were all "Wooooooooooooo!" What did the intro say exactly? I heard something about Canada and ice fishing and I cracked up. It was a spoof of the same intro from Enter the 36, right?

I'm still trying to figure out how Axiom got the plastic machette into the venue. And how no one accidentally got stabbed as we wilded out on stage.

I think Charlie's Shake Ya Ass and Scooter's Overnight Celebrity rank among the all-time great hhk performances.

12:15 PM
Blogger Kev frum BROOKLYN! said...

Btw, we need video cause it's all a blurr to me. I just remember pausing because I coudln't believe how hyped the crowd was...

12:16 PM
Blogger Kev frum BROOKLYN! said...

let's not forget Poncho's "Stronger." Another great Kanye performance by the man in the BAPE shit.

12:19 PM

That was probably the strongest performance night since June 23rd at Southpaw. Seriously. The crowd was still thick at almost 2am. And that never happens.

Kev I heard you trip up a little on your U-God. LOL. Was that the pause u were talking about? We all killed it though.

1:23 PM
Blogger Charlie said...

yes! yes! i think that poncho pay have been the first in the history of hhk to have coreographed his number.

1:26 PM
Blogger Kev frum BROOKLYN! said...

Yes Dee, that was the "pause" i was talking about... thanks for blowing up my spot.

But seriously, it's one thing to be in the crowd getting hyped (i.e. scenario remix) but it was crazy being on stage.

1:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

i feel like the crowd was divided over poncho's performance. half fuckin LOVED it, 40% were like "omg i'm way too cool for this song" and 10% hadn't heard of it. i was in the first 50% that LOVED it. the purple gloves. geah.

scooter's shit was insane. biggest crowd roar i've heard in a while. amazing. hearing that kind of crowd reaction at ANY show in nyc is rare.

Kev, it's the curse of the "weak" verse. I tripped up on Milo's Scenario verse, and he's the least of the MC's on that song. U-God I love, but at the time of Enter The Wu-Tang he was the least represented, and he only gets four bars in Protect Ya Neck.

And I meant that so sincerely, I had to post it twice.

Seriously, the purple gloves, nice touch. I agree with Dee Phunk: best hhk since the afterparty. And that was a night that set the bar pretty damn high.

7:48 PM
Blogger Kev frum BROOKLYN! said...

Thanks RDJ. I'm glad someone can feel my pain...but i totally got caught in the moment.

Wex, I was part of the 50% as well and too busy to notice the other 50%.

And as said before, I swore some chick was gonna throw her panties on the stage for Scooter on some Teddy P. shit. I've never seen women get that excited at HHK.

8:06 PM
Blogger Emily said...

That's what happens when you play somethin us hoes'll like.

Ladies and gentlemen, THAT is why Scooter Mcgoo is my HHK Idol....

i guess that shake ya ass is not the kind of song to which it would be in a woman's best interest to react with enthusiasm ...

7:29 AM
Blogger Kev frum BROOKLYN! said...

Ummm, yeah Charlie. The kinda women that are enthusiastic about that song tend to frequent establishment with poles on the stage.

Speaking of... I think we need a group outting to such a place.

10:03 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

KEV!!!! HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF INDULGING IN SUCH EVILS???......(Let me know when and where)....

10:59 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

And not for nothing Charlie, you picked a perfect song for the night. You might not have noticed but the women in the crowd were going nuts!!!

11:02 AM

Why is everyone ignoring Emily's last comment? It was sexy.

That's cause everything she does is sexy...

Saw the Protect Ya Neck footage..

CRAZY

You cats will love it.

Funny moment.. Wex is playing it for me, and my verse is ending..On to Kev God.. But I go "wait wait wait..hold on..rewind to my last line please.. wtf did I just say???" .. Upon further review, the following words came out of my mouth : "the blunt from the lyrical smoke makes me *cough*".. I have zero idea how that left my lips.. I didn't even REALIZE it came out of my mouth until seeing that video.. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you MC Diggslexia.. Have a nice day.

Aw, thanks Kev. Listen, guys. As it happens, the reason I had to leave after my backup dance on Saturday was because a friend of mine was in some sort of fashion show at...take a guess...the Pussycat. We went downstairs afterward and I'm sorry to report that it was a whole new low for the place. The strippers were all at least 40 and one of them just sat on the edge of the stage fully clothed. Worst Pussycat visit ever.

5:34 PM

the sexyness continues. . .

That's a depressing visual...

7:58 PM
Blogger Charlie said...

in my first summer job for which i had to dress up (i.e., not construction), the adults used to take me to the pussycat after work some days - it was not pretty back then either.

funny wrinkle (note my play on words) to the story was that my wife and i ended up having our fist apartment together in a building just up the block from the pussycat. and no, i have not been back since that summer job.

8:57 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Charlie: Emily can perhaps write whatever she wants and make it sound sexy, but I do not (repeat, NOT) want to hear about your "fist apartment" with your wife.

HA HA HA HA HA!!! So, seriously, when when are we going to the strip joint?? McLovin is in the house...
