Guest Blogger: Charlie

I love music. Yes, music is entertaining, but that's why I like it, not why I love it. What makes music special is its power to affect mental and physical response. Everyone has that song for getting in a good mood, or that song that yields motivation, or that song when its time for un poco bump y grind.

These are my top 5 songs* for pushing through mental and physical barriers and onto new personal achievements:

1) Nice & Smooth - No Delayin
2) Rolling Stones - Paint It, Black
3) Wu - 7th Chamber Pt. 2
4) AC/DC - Back In Black
5) House of Pain - Who's The Man

*usually changes daily; not in any specific order

I would love to hear others' top 5 songs for any given purpose.

See you next year.

1) I Don't Care - Audio Two
2) Peachfuzz - KMD
3) Stress - Organized Konfusion
4) Hood Hop - J-Kwon
5) Shot Down - DMX feat. 50 Cent & Styles P

And like Charlie said, my list changes occasionally, and its not in any particular order....

Those are songs that relate to my growing up in the hood chasing girls....except Shot Down, which is just a song that gets me hype during my ride to HHK each month.

These are my top 5 albums for getting through cleaning up my room, possibly the most difficult thing I ever have to do.

4. Beatles - Abbey Road
5. Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang

Agreed.

No Delayin is one of my favorites.

Once I hear those pianos, it's a wrap.

As Charlie mentioned, these are liable to change daily (if not hourly.) So today, this is what I got (I kept it all hip hop for obvious reasons)

(in no order)
1. Nas - Represent
2. Beastie Boys - Pass The Mic
3. A Tribe Called Quest - Vibes and Stuff
4. Notorious BIG - Gimmie Tha Loot
5. Wu-Tang - Bring Da Ruckus

Each of these are important to me because not only do they make me think of some of the best times of my life, but also blew my shit up when I heard them for the first time. Isn't music beautiful? I'm really high.

Happy New Year Y'all

re no delayin, once i hear that cough it's ovah. one of those few songs you can name in no notes.

i must have been really bad this year b/c i'm jewish, yet still got a lump of coal in my stocking. metaphorically at least - i've recently been blessed with a horrendous cold. i'll be the one constantly blowing his nose at the chris rock show on nye.

Here are a few gems that I use to pump me up during a run:

Big Daddy Kane - Set it Off
Dice Raw feat. Black Thought & Malik B. - Thin Line Between Raw & Jiggy
L.L. Cool J. - Mama Said Knock You Out
The Roots - Web
P.E. & Anthrax - Bring Tha Noise

I'm a pretty mellow cat, so I definitely have to rely on music to pump me up for most of what I have to do. Here's my jams in no particular order:

"Make It Rain (remix)": I started listening to this last summer before tennis tournaments. I'm still working on how best to use it because instead of concentrating on the next point, I'm singing the song!

"Break Stuff," Limp Bizkit: I know: they're kind of lame, but you play this in part of your workout, forget about it.

"Guerilla Radio," Rage Against the Machine: Ditto, except they're not lame.

"Game of Pricks," Guided by Voices: When you want something to make you just want to rock out, jump around and play air guitar, this is the song.

"Free and Easy," Brian Jonestown Massacre: The perfect song to keep a good mood going.

My Top Five Hip-Hop Jams Of The Moment:

1. "Thirteen" - Organized Konfusion
2. "Chief Rocka" - Lords Of The Underground
3. "Da Funk Mode" - Intelligent Hoodlum (Tragedy) feat. Havoc and Large Pro
4. "Are You Ready?" - The Beatnuts feat. Grand Puba
5. "International Player's Anthem" - UGK feat. OutKast

Hoping to make the tournament as I've been mysteriously absent from the last couple HHK events (my apologies).
