good friday night.

thanks to everyone that came out on friday night.

i certainly had a really good time - which might have been a direct correlation to the number of green bottles on-stage. but regardless, good times, good times. got home at 4:30am, woke up my girl, told her how diggedy had to wear a sign that said "midget" and passed the f out.

props to my boss who was in the house - and props to rdj's parents, who were also in the house for the bizness - and to the superfriendz who packed the stage - and to charlie with the crazy look in his eye when brooklyn zoo dropped. and to everyone else who rocked it... best.

** ah yes, and a BIG shoutout to Masta Ace - who came out to rock Crooklyn with diggedy & deeeeeephunk. very dope moment for us.

next one is a thursday night - so we'll see who the true hhk'ers are. may 10. 9pm.

deejay wex.

Don't forget the Masta Ace appearance with Dee Phunk and Diggedy: That isht was insane!

From an in-the-crowd perspective, I noticed on Ace's face that he was really impressed by how those two had the song down, almost shocked even.

As I told J. New, I really appreciate how real he was. I mean, on stage, reading off the paper fucking up like anyone of us.

If anyone has video of the Special Josh (Special Ed) / Masta Ace / Phunkshot (Buckshot) performance, let me know. I think I grabbed my crotch too much again.

Van, that's buggin' me out. Seriously? I didn't even look @ the man once during the performance. I was too focused on not fuckin' up my verses.

Fallon caught the Masta Ace performances for J. New. He has them now so I'm assuming they'll be up on the site at some point.

Pa and Ma Downey (I feel funny calling them that, since neither of THEM look like Robert, ha ha) had a great time. They were impressed with the production values and energy. They couldn't understand a fucking word, and that was fine.

Top quotes from them:

1) "I can feel the bass pumping in my chest! Can't they turn it down just a bit so I can hear some of the words?" (I told them I'd pass the message on to Hip Hop in general.)
2) "What were you spelling all through your song?"

On the real, they really appreciated it and so did I. Quite aside from their presence, which was way cool for me, I LOVED rocking the Bizness. I can't get enough of that track. I could do it every month and be happy.

Thanks to the crew for helping make it happen. Now my family knows what I've been doing with my time here in the U.S.A..

rdj - very similar to my parents' impressions of the june 2006 show at southpaw. they definitely had the comment re inability to understand lyrics and loudness of music. another comment they had, however, was to critique the prevalence of "motherfucker" in so many songs. well, apparently they were able to understand at least some of the lyrics. another highlight was that my mom almost got in a fight at the bar with someone from big daddy kane's entourage. no one comes into her hood and tries to box her out at the bar. recognize.

Another Spectacular Show!!! Everyone's energy level was extra high, and the performances were off the charts!

Mad Props to everyone who got videos throughout the night. I have seen a few, and they are great. (Shawn J. . . we have vid of you doing Quiet Storm, but our audio is almost non-exsistant. . . we'll need to work on that)

Masta Ace. . . wow. . . I can't say anymore. . . (and yes. . . he definitely had the "damn these guys are killin' it" grin throughout the performance!)

Loved the parental shout-out. RDJ's parents get MUCH props for coming out, and experiencing the HHK throwdown. They weren't even posted up in the back, either. . . they were up front and center for the RDJ performance. True HHKers at heart! (Now. . . if M-Dot didn't go to sleep before sign-ups. . . maybe I can persuade her to come out and see her boys put it down. . . hmmmm.)

I love how Superfriendz is an excuse to find out how many people on stage it takes to make Wex's computer fall down. (Seriously I kept looking back at him and he was holding on for dear life back there!!) Sorry about jackin' your song Ax. . . but you know that song wouldn't have gone 1 bar w/o 90% of the crowd rushing the stage!

And Dashaun. . . how cool is that cat?!?!? Not only taking vid of me, but showing it to Chip-Fu!?!?!?! Dashaun. . . you are the Mother F#$&(*&# Man!

You guys are better than me. I couldn't invite my parents down to Hip Hop Karaoke. I still feel funny drinking hard liquor in front alone let alone rappin' a song live on stage. Josh, if you could put "Now That We Found Love" by Heavy D on the list one day, I'll tell 'em to come. And then have them leave immediately after.

oh yeah,

off topic: brooklyn bodega got an interview with KRS talking about that Nike Classics joint (w/ kanye, and nas. posted last month). Boring interview, but at the bottom there's audio of the song. I didn't realize the original track had rick rubin on the beat, and that its waaay better than Premier's half-assed remix.
The whole song makes more sense on the rick rubin version.
