Braggin' Rights.

Hey, did you guys know that J-Live can deejay and rap AT THE SAME TIME? well, he can.

anyways--

It's hard to believe, but the YEAR anniversay of Hip Hop Karaoke is in a couple days. Time really flys. The weather is going to be good, the drinks will be flowing, and the night will not disappoint. I'm definitely excited for it. I may even have a song up my sleeve... "wex, what's the song got to do with me?"

speaking of...

Tomorrow morning from 10am-Noon, the HHK founders will be LIVE ON AIR on Sirius Radio, on the The Cipha Sounds Effect morning show. We'll be promoting HHK, taking calls, and we'll even be joined by a few HHK-NYC regulars for some in-studio HHK action. So if you have Sirius, be sure to listen. If not, I'm going to try and get the recording of the show to have available here on the site.

Also, more to come on this later, but the HHK founders were also recently interviewed for an upcoming piece in XXL (which I just read was the countries highest selling music magazine, period). So be on the look out for that too.

Ok, enough braggin....

see you all on Friday...

OH... and I can't forget to tell you all this: For this Friday night only, I'll be stepping aside from my usual signup DJ set to give DJ Album Cuts (aka Diggedy, aka Joshie D, aka Duckketts) an hour to bless you all with a trip back in time.... get there early for it.

holla.....

Random Ill Song

No rhyme or reason why I'm posting this other than the fact that this is one of Doom's best beats. Wish it was just him on it. Oh well. Enjoy.

E'erbody Luvs the Familia (AKA Music You Will Like, Vol. 3)

To reiterate the previous post, if you sent us an e-mail in the past couple of weeks and we haven't responded, it's b/c our e-mail was a bit messed up but is now fixed. So if you didn't hear from us, please re-send to info@hiphopkaraokenyc.com and we'll send you candy. Oh, and a response. And check below for info on the HHK New Years' Blowout @ Rothko!

Moving on, anyone who has seen a ?uestlove DJ set knows that he has a soft spot for the original songs sampled for famous hip-hop songs. Here he put together 40 of these for BBC 1 that has more "Ohhhhh shit" moments/minute than your average Wex set (almost). Props to
Brock for the heads up.

And, to thank you for checking this blog out, here's the original song list from the mix. You're welcome.

The month of Illmatic...

What's up people.. My apologies for the delay..

Crazy, crazy, crazy Friday.. "A" games were brought yet again...

Too many highlights to even get into, but I will say that Nas' first opus was definitely done justice... Damon's "The World Is Yours", Joe's "Halftime", and Darryl's "It Ain't Hard To Tell" had me feeling like I was in the Wiz buying the cassette for $7.99 again.

On to the winners... I hate this part, cause there are always 15 people I'm like "but what about..." .. Prizes this month go to Avi for "Shook Ones", Jessica for "Got Your Money", and Darryl for "It Ain't Hard To Tell"..

Hit us up with an e-mail to claim your prize ..

Thanks again to everyone for coming out...

Til December 2...

Great Night!!!

First of all, a BIG thank you to all of you that came out last night. The night was a great success all around. We all had a lot of fun rockin' with you guys and we hope to see you all again next month.

Business:

- The pictures from last night will be up on the site sometime in the next few days, so please check back with us soon for those.
- The WFMU record fair is this weekend and I urge all of you music nerds to attend. It's really something. I went this afternoon and dropped some serious change on some records for HHK. Tune back to the site soon to see what gems i was able to unearth.
- Next month's HHK will be our official 1 YEAR anniversary edition. But we don't expect gifts or anything... well... i mean... unless you want to.

Your host Diggedy aka J Digs aka J Digekty aka J Bumms aka J Funk Railroad aka Josh, might be showing up on the blog in the next couple days to re-cap last nights activities. He's good at remembering names. I'm not.

be good. enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.

Howdy

Ever since they started airing that trailer for "Jarhead", I've had "Jesus Walks" in my head incessantly. Bom Bom Bom, Bom Ba Bom Bom Bom. Non Stop. It wasn't even this bad when the song was hot and the video was being aired. I don't know.

Speaking of Jesus, Sarah Silverman has a new movie coming out on November 11th (in NYC, anyways) called "Jesus Is Magic". I'm a fan.

Speaking of Magic, did you hear that Copperfields new "trick" is going to be impregnating a woman on stage --- from across the room. Seriously, is this what he's come to these days?

Speaking of catchy songs, cute girls, and magical performances ... be sure to come out this Friday night to our November edition of Hip Hop Karaoke. The weather is supposed to clear, warm, and perfect for spittin rhymes. Rothko. 10pm. Drinks, Prizes, Rapping, etc etc.
