Weekend At Diggedy's - Volume 33

Brooklyn! Brooklyn!

Tonight!

South Paw!

We're back with Rare Form for a night of Hip Hop like it used to be, and Hip Hop like it oughta be.

2 hours of Hip Hop Karaoke. Evil Dee on the wheels of steel. Go home from work. Have a steak and cheese Hot Pocket. Catch an episode of The Wonder Years that you DVR'd. Take a shower. Put on your Friday best. Jeans? Slacks? T-shirt? Nothing too dressy I hope. Hop on the iron horse and come through. Have an alcoholic beverage. Have several! Last time, at 3am, while DJ Spinna was spinning, a Doni D, Shawn J, Chef lip synch concert broke out on stage. And it went down as the top 3 shows I've seen this year. I was in the front row like Pete & CL reunited. Speaking of...

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING DISAPPOINTING NEWS :

To our fans, yes, I have gotten ALL of your letters. I DESPERATELY tried to have your favorite group (and mine), 48 HOURS reunite this evening for a performance. However, due to reasons outside of my control, that will not happen. I really can't get into it, but I can say that I hope Eddeephunk Murphy gets the care he needs. Wish him the best when you see him everyone.

On that note, on to the choice cuts for this Friday, September 28th.

Division feat LA The Darkman - "Brooklyn, Brooklyn"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3899766685d66e/

What better song to start this edition off? This track is bananas, and is produced by Rza. It's certainly not the greatest line ever uttered, but for the past few months I find myself saying EVERYwhere I go "On the table I lay teks, like rubber gloves". The beat is bananas. Not much more to say about this one. Just DOWNLOAD IT!

Missin' Linx - "MIA"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3899872a75380e/

Before there was "Next Episode", there was "MIA". I'm not gonna lie. "MIA" was always my favorite of the two. I actually bought the 12" to this, and only have like 9 pieces of vinyl bought in my 29 years and 3 months of living. Not because I'm anti-vinyl. I just never bought a turntable as a kid. My mom had one in the living room. It was a pain in the ass to come downstairs, and sit in the living room while my mom was in the kitchen reading, and play Missin' Linx. Why can't you understand that?? Why must I lose Hip Hop cred? She is a LOVELY woman. She couldn't concentrate! Can you read a book while Problemz is saying "Prepare your eardrums for one of the ruggedest raw / Emcees to ever bless the mic device rhymes galore." Maybe you can. I don't know. But my mother couldn't. And I couldn't bring the turntable upstairs. Then she'd go to put on a Turtles record and say "WTF JOSH??? WHERE IS MY TURNTABLE??". So now you're saying, "Hey Josh, why not just BUY YOUR OWN TURNTABLE??" Do I look like I was made of money at the time? 5 years after discman's were on everyone's laps on the subway, I was still bumping a walkmen. You STILL might see me on the subway with a walkman now. While you were buying records, I was buying cassettes. Can't we just agree to disagree? F*ck man. JUST DOWNLOAD IT!!

Legion - "Legion Groove"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/39000418260061/

Has this been in a previous Weekend At Diggedy's? I can honestly tell you I have no idea. Do I want to go back and check? I can honestly tell you "no". Does it matter? Chances are there is someone reading this who has no idea who the Legion are. Chances are you didn't download it anyway, because you're content with your 1gb of mp3's and aren't looking to expand. Well you're wrong for doing that sir (or madame, although typing madame has completely ruined the steam the joke did or didn't have, and if you ask Jay or Wex they'll say it didn't since they hate hate hate), and I don't care for that type of attitude. Dres from Black Sheep co-signed the band. Does that help you? They had a modest NYC hit with "Jingle, Jangle". Ring a bell? Either way, the song is nitro fresh, click, it download it, MAKE IT YOURS!

Alright people.

See you tonight.

If you aren't coming, well, you hate rap.

And yourself.

Weekend At Diggedy's - Volume 32

Let's begin this edition of Weekend At Diggedy's on a positive note :

Happy Birthday to HHK veteran and friend, Kevy Kev. Have a shot on us. Please get a receipt from the bartender. You can validate your shot receipt either at the HHK / Rare Form extravaganza 9/28 featuring DJ EVIL DEE. Or, at our very last Hip Hop Karaoke of 2007 at the Knitting Factory on 11/2. Your choice.

That's right folks. It's down to the final 2. That's 2 more songs to capture on a camera phone and upload to youtube. 2 last chances to bring the house down. 2 last chances to say that special something, to a special someone in the crowd, through Hip Hop song. Are we really that far away from an HHK onstage proposal? Food for thought.

Any way you slice it, I hope to see EVERYONE at those next 2 events.

And on that note, on to the choice cuts for this Friday, September 21st...

Slim Cutta Calhoun feat Andre from Outkast - "It's Alright"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/377312642c35e6/

So here's the deal. This tracks a few years old. On the surface, it's basically just a fast food, good for a few listens track. Which isn't a bad thing. It's just not something that you'll see on any top 500 lists. However, it's worth a download, cause Andre murders the track. And I know you kids love your Andre.

Smif N Wessun - "Get Up"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3773235957e938/

Ok. This was on one of the Lyricist Lounge albums. Am I wrong, or is this song bananas? I'm guessing I'm wrong, cause no one has ever pulled me aside and said "Yo Diggs.. We need to discuss something. Did you ever hear that Smif N Wessun track "Get Up"? It's bananas." I don't know what to say. I'm not a violent person in any way, shape, or form. I hear this track, and it makes me want to just start beating the sh*t out of grandma's or something. Disclaimer : To all grandmothers reading my blog, I do not really want to beat the sh*t out of you (whether I've listened to this song or not). I love grandmothers. It was more of a dig at myself. I'm weak. I'm not a fighter. You're probably the only opponent I have a chance against. Not saying I'm a lock to win. But come on. Even you have to admit that it would be tough to take me. You're old. Not as agile as you once were. I have a long reach. That's all I'm saying. Good luck. See you on the streets.

PMD - "Straight From Da Heart"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/377339518b900b/

Another older track. Yeah, yeah, I get it. I'm an EPMD fan too. The two of them just don't sound right on their own. But............. There's always been something about Parrish that made me still want to cop his solo LP's. There's just something very NY about it. It's like construction worker, bring your lunch pale to work rap. I don't have to think too hard. I just get some straight up fisherman hat sh*t. This track was produced by Kut Master Kurt, and is crrrrrrrrrazy. Stop f*cking around, click the link, and DOWNLOAD IT!

Alright people.

Be safe this weekend.

Say no to drugs.

Weekend At Diggedy's - Volume 31

Another week gone.

Fairly uneventful.

I don't want to discuss the VMA's, Britney, etc.

I don't want to talk about Kanye's tantrum.

I don't want to discuss the "battle" between the two with their new CD's.

Don't want to talk about the fact that not only do I have to live every day with how badly the Knicks suck, but now I have to read about the Garden basically being no better than a daily frat party.

Don't want to talk about Belicheck and the spies.

Don't want to talk about the Giants defense, or Eli's shoulder.

I just want to talk music.

On to the choice tracks for this Friday, September 14th...

50 Cent - "Smile (I'm Leavin)"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3651198c00ebac/

Not really what you'd expect for Weekend at Diggs. I just heard this track yesterday and haven't stopped bumping it. So, I figured I'd include it on here in case you feel the same way. It's a bonus track off of 50's new album, and is produced by someone with the initials KW who is from Chicago and loves teddy bear's. Not sure what his full name is. Enjoy.

Biz Markie - "My Name Is"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/36512921bd5924/

Another track I just downloaded that I've been playing non-stop. Who can go wrong with Biz back on the mic? This is just a really fresh track, and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There is something about this track that just makes me feel like I'm 10 again. Download it!

Kool G Rap featuring Large Professor, Freddie Foxx, and Anton - "Money In The Bank"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3651708db682dd/

Dope track off of Wanted Dead or Alive. Make it yours today by downloading.

Have a good weekend people.

See you on Mulberry Street.

photos from sept 7 are up!

never say never.

on today's episode of wex wednesday, we're going to look at some rap lines that... well... ended up not really... holding much water.

one of them is quite possibly my favorite of all-time, and is one that i often play on during my super duper dj wex megamix pre-show hhk sets - which is the famous dre line in "express yourself". what made this one so utterly amazing is that it's not like he caught smoking weed in a dark corner of a club after saying "I still express, yo, I don't smoke weed or sess". no no no. he said that line and then named his solo album the fucking chronic!! and not just that... made this the cd!!!
i mean, holy shit. that's what i call taking a 180. but i guess, as history has shown, the good doctor has had a little trouble figuring out what he really wants. see #1 & #2, plus, helllloooo rakim, raekwon, helter skelter, etc!

anyhow... the 180's:

1. Dr. Dre "I still express, yo, I don't smoke weed or sess" on "Express Yourself".
2. Dr. Dre "Peep out my manuscript, you see that it's a must i drop gangsta shit" on "Deeez Nuuuts". then he dropped his 180 on "Been There Done That".
3. Chuck D "Never be a brother like me go solo" on "Welcome to the Terrordome". yup, you guessed it, solo record.
4. Nas/Jay-Z on everything they said on "Ether" & "Takeover". they hug now. and hang out. and trade transformers.
5. Pos "That's why the Native Tongues have officially been re-instated" on "Stakes is High". we wish.

there's like 9 billion more. what are they?

Weekend At Diggedy's - Volume 30

Before we begin, a note from your sponsor:

TONIGHT AT THE KNITTING FACTORY

HIP HOP KARAOKE

10pm DOORS

11pm SHOW

COME THROUGH

IT’S FREE

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program:

Gotta make this one short and sweet cause today’s a little crazy…

But I guess sometimes less Diggedy talking and more track posting is a good thing.

Also, an additional note: Charlie is NOT allowed to download any of the songs this week due to his comments on Weekend At Diggedy’s in recent weeks.

On to the choice cuts for this Friday, September 7th:

The Roots – “Peter Piper” (Live at Roseland 2003)
http://www.zshare.net/audio/352649631f3c8e/

No, it’s not as good as the version I do with DJ Wex. But that’s something you have to check out live once a year. You just never know when we’re going to drop it. But when we do, and Wex steps from behind that booth, you almost feel like Jam Master Jay is manning the wheels of steel for us.

The Troubleneck Brothers – “Back To The Hip Hop”
http://www.zshare.net/audio/35267457337481/

This song is pretty much a necessity for any collection. Such a great track. My Uncle Louie was a truck driver in the early 90’s and one day he ended up having to make a delivery to a label. They had a box of CD’s they were throwing out, and he grabbed anything that looked like rap. So he brings me this collection of oddball sh*t, when all of a sudden I pull out the maxi-single for this song. A true jewel. Download it!

Red Hot Lover Tone – “Damian’s Hook”
http://www.zshare.net/audio/35268467449dd4/

I’ve said it in the past, I’ll say it again. I’m a fan of Red Hot Lover Tone’s albums. This is off of the 2nd LP, #1 Player. If you haven’t heard it, download it fools. You’ll have a fun time listening to all the rappers name dropped.

That’s it, that’s all.

SEE YOU TONIGHT!

Best. Video. Ever?

A bit old but hey, if you haven't seen it, it's new to you. Anyone who played countless hours of Punch-Out will relate.
