yes, i'm still alive.

look party people, i know wex wednesday's are now about as predictable as dennis rodman in 1994.... but life gets hectic, as we all know, and dammit, wex is just doing his best.

today's discussion is going to focus on the rides. i know a lot of us new yawkas rely on the iron horse to get around... but try to relate here. i remember back in my high school/college days, some of my favorite moments of life happened in my car. :) get your mind out of the gutter.

i really enjoyed driving over to the music store, buying that new album i've been waiting for, and poppin it in the deck - only to roll around for an hour soaking it all in. that's the one thing i really miss about not having a car. damn.

my fav songs dedicated to the whip:

1. Benz or Beamer - Outkast
2. Boomin System - LL Cool J
3. 5 Star Hooptie - J-Zone
4. Let Me Ride - Dre
5. Sittin on Chrome - Masta Ace

bump these.

see you friday, kids.

A quick note:
In a perfect world, we’d have dozens of competitors battle this one out as there have been so many people that have torn down the stage at HHK. Sadly, logistics forced us to make some extremely hard decisions.

Weekend at Diggedy's - Volume 37

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood afternoon everybody.

Wow, I've been listening to too much Mike & The Mad Dog. For those that have no idea what I am talking about - like Jay and Wex - pay it no mind. I'm just a sports freak.

Hope all is well. Stay tuned to the blog on Monday for our January announcement.

I don't know why, but today, I'm feeling in a "wedding" mood. Somewhere, the girly is reading this and getting excited. Sorry boo. What I mean is, of the three tracks I post, it will be something new, something old, and something borrowed.

The new....

Wu Tang Clan - "Take It Back"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/4469934de53b01/

I posted this because I know we have a lot of Wu-heads.. But I'll be honest.. Again.. It's not killing me.. Everyone is amped on the Wu "comeback" album, but here's the thing : They were amped on the last two comeback albums. And both of those came and went. They had flashes, but nothing that's really been dope as hell. I'm not expecting another 36 Chambers. I just hoped that they were going to really go all out on this one, kind of like Jay on The Blueprint. I've only heard the two tracks. I'll hold out hope that either these songs will grow on me, or that the best is yet to come. For now, not blown away.

The old...

Artifacts featuring Brand Nubian - "Check The Fine Print"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/44703963d50c98/

This song won the award for shittiest quality mp3 at the 2004 "MP3 Gala" in San Bernadino. I had this on cassette, and when I found it on mp3, it was a glorious day. Until I played it and it was just as shitty quality as my cassette version. Any way you slice it. It's a dope track. And the low fi quality has actually grown on me over the years. It's like an Eddie Wilson / Bo Diddley unreleased track that the labels haven't gotten a hold of (if you have any idea what that reference is, we're friends for life). Anyway, you know the deal. DOWNLOAD IT!

The borrowed...

The Clipse feat Ab Liva, Pharrel, and Rosco P Coldchain - "Hot Damn"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/44720699dff4fe/

Why is this borrowed? Well, because many years ago Wex sent me an mp3 folder entitled "16 Hour Playlist". He was very proud of this folder. It has what you think it has : 16 hours of his favorites. This song is among them. We went on a "Hot Damn" kick for a good 18 months. That's why it's on the HHK list, even though it's never been done.

And that's where it will stay.

Forever.

Stay tuned for Monday.

Have a great weekend.

Sept 28 Photos Are Up!!!

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

guess what?

the brooklyn southpaw photos will up tomorrow!

would have got them up there today - but work got the best of me.

speaking of, i miss wex wednesdays. real bad.

been so dang hectic that i havent had a minute to rattle off even just one small list of things i like.

but i'm going to pull a WAD right now... and post a couple songs i love that you might want to listen to:

Massive Attack - Butterfly Caught (Rjd2 Remix)

a real mellow joint to play when you turn the lights down with your lady. attention axiom.

David Banner - Cadillac on 22's (Acoustic Version from MTV)

before hearing/seeing this performance, i thought banner was somebody to be skipped. but after hurricane katrina, he went on mtv's special and dropped this heartfelt rendition of his song, "cadillac on 22's". and i changed my mind. love this ish.

love ya'll.

Weekend At Diggedy's - Volume 36

NO PHOTOS?

NO PHOTOS????

No, no photos.

Sorry people.

We're working on it. Our crack photography staff is in the dark room developing everything trying to bring out your inner and outer beauty.

It's filthy outside.. I'm sitting here waiting for the Joe Torre press conference to start... Kind of upset about Joe leaving.. All things must come to an end , but I was hoping he'd go out when he wanted to.. Yankees are going to rue the day they let this man go.. That's why I think they're going to hire Don Mattingly.. Everyone wants to HATE the Yankees right now.. So the one thing they can do from a PR standpoint is hire a Yankee idol...

Whatever.. F*ck it.. None of them are paying my bills.

On that note, the choice cuts for this dark, cloudy, October 19th :

Leaders of the New School feat Cracker Jax and Rumpletilskinz - "Mt. Airy Groove"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/4323018304a703/

I am by no means the end all be all on this.. I had no idea it existed 'til I downloaded it a couple of years ago... Apparently, this is the track that introduced the world to Leaders of the New School (off of an Elektra compilation).. It's a really dope cut.. I'm still vexed they couldn't reunite everyone to do "Scenario" at the Hip Hop Honors, but at least Busta came out wearing a Dr.Seuss hat.. You know the deal.. Download it!

World Reknown - "How Nice I Am"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/432399271fe55e/

Smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth.

Kanye West feat Mos Def & Al Be - "Good Night"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/4324106ed8979c/

Bonus track from Japan.. Dope track... Should have been on the original album, but I guess it doesn't matter since it's yours to have now for free.

Not very wordy today, I know.

Next week I'll hit everyone off with the stories you know and loathe.

Have a good one.

Thursday, October 18, 2007

hey

Things are quiet on the blog front, eh?

Let's talk people..

Open forum.

Anyone see the Salt n Pepa reality show? I found it very difficult to watch. My girlfriend nailed it on the head comparing it to the Two Corey's shows. She's cleaned up her life. She's still the rebel. What happens when they get back together? OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

I always liked Salt n Pepa.. They had crazy personality, and there was just something awesome about two women running shit like that.. It always bothered me that they just up and disappeared..

I got excited about the reality show, but it's pretty much a wrap now that Salt has become so involved in the church. To see them re-doing the words to "Whatta Man", and find out she never wants to perform "Push It" again. What????????? Crazy man.

I understand it's probably a "scripted" reality show... But I'm willing to bet it's not far from the truth.

I sat through the Gotti show as well.. I really don't care about the whole family aspect of it.. And I'm not a fan of the music.. I just find it interesting at this point, 2007 going into 2008, can these dudes find a way to make some noise again in the industry.. I'll give it another episode or two, and then, I'll re-evaluate.

I have always been a TV junkie. Now that I have DVR, forget about it. If World Series of Pop Culture doesn't take me next year, there will be PROBLEMS.

I'll see everyone tomorrow for Weekend at Diggedy's.

Peace.

Weekend At Diggedy's - Volume 35

It's 7:04pm and I still don't have my WAD in.

Today has been BANANAS.

Doesn't my job understand I need a good hour to write this out????

Well, I don't want to leave you empty handed, so here's the deal.

I sent wifey three random tracks that I randomly picked. Each one is her review.

Bon apetit!

Nas - "Surviving The Times"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/4182538eb6d678/

i really liked the R&B feel of Surviving the Times. it was smooth and the story of Nas making his way up to the top sounded real, not pompous or gangsta. (note from editor : she also put a cute smiley face in at the end).

Rhymefest - "Angry Black Man"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/4182587b0af95a/

This is a pretty funny song... i don't know if it's supposed to be but it is. i had a hard time listening to any other lyrics but "I'm an angry black man in an elevator!" Of course, it was Lil Jon's interjections of "WHAT!' that made it genius. (editor's note : I hope she was kidding about that last line)

Wu Tang Clan - "The Heart Gently Weeps"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/4182728cda2b7b/

The aspect of this song that i liked was the use of the whole instrumental from The Beatle's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Other than that, to be honest, i kinda tuned out halfway through. (editor's note : is it wrong that I do too?)

Have a great weekend people...

just the tip of iceburg.

"Fiascogate"

hah... ooooooooookay.

1) Nas - One Love

2) Crooklyn Dodgers - Crooklyn

3) Mobb Deep - Give Up the Goods

4) Apache - Gangsta B####

5) Mobb Deep - Drink Away the Pain

i'm prolly forgetting a ton...

and i dont think he had a hand in producing this... but damn if i dont hear his vocals every sunday during football in that budweiser commercial:

Weekend at Diggedy's - Volume 34

The Charles Oakley edition...

What's up people.

Happy Friday and all of that good stuff.

Yours truly had another great time in Brooklyn last Friday. Thanks for coming out and supporting.

We've got one more to go for '07... November 2nd.. So start dreaming up some sh*t that will take the event out this year with a bang.

Our "announcement" will be coming soon.

For now, please accept these choice cuts for Friday, October 5th.

Consequence featuring Kanye West - "So Soulful"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/40340355b898f7/

This is just a happy song from a couple of years ago.. This is the perfect "It's Friday.. It's beautiful out.. I need my walking to work theme music track".. I have nothing else to say.. If you like Kanye and Q-Tip's cousin, you'll dig this.

Samsun Sejour - "The Big Throwback"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/40344306c867ca/

So here's the deal..I don't know much about these cats.. But they had a song called "The Big Throwback" that I thought was dope... Just basically a "reminisce" cut over a dope ass beat.. Someone took it and spliced in verses from Redman and Nas.. I think it's just a cool track.. Juding by the download counts on some of the songs I post, you probably won't, but still, you should DOWNLOAD IT!

y5o - "Cockblock"
http://www.zshare.net/audio/40349876ee8a4e/

34 volumes of Weekend At Diggedy's. That's over 100 songs. Not once have I tried to shove my past musical adventures down your throat. Until now. At the show on Friday in Brooklyn, an old old old old dear friend - and my former partner in rhyme - Undakova stopped by HHK. It's been a MINUTE and then some since we last saw each other, and it's had me sitting here reminiscing about the good old days. For those that don't know, our wonderful photographer Rick, the aforementioned Undakova, our pals Vijay and David, and I were all in a live Hip Hop band in college called : "y5o" (http://myspace.com/y5o). I went by the name of Lyrical Jester. Friday was the first time all three of us were in a room together in a long time. Anyway, we didn't really record much of our work, but I have posted today a rare recording of a song we did called "Cockblock". Thanks to Rick for digging it up. It's about 6-7 years old, not really mixed down, but f*ck it. I still think it's dope. I know what you should do. You know what you should do. Download it!

That's all people.

Have a good weekend.

Go Yanks and Giants.
