Bringing in 2010 also means that we're 29 days away from the 2nd ever Hip Hop Karaoke Championship. The 12 competitors have their songs picked out, are (hopefully!) practicing hard, and I'm sure will be bringing some entertaining ish to the stage at Irving Plaza.

Definitely check back here, or on Twitter, on Monday January 4th. We'll be announcing the next judge -- and let me tell you -- you don't want to miss this. For serious. We've already announced that BUCKSHOT as our first judge. So yea, the bar is set.

Buckshot Confirmed to Judge HHK Championship

We were remiss to not include this on the blog but we're proud to announce the inclusion of Buckshot (Black Moon) as a judge for the 2010 Hip Hop Karaoke Championship. Buck's coming with over 15 years experience blessing stages so his insight will be more than valuable. Allhiphop's got the exclusive quote:

"I'm excited to be given the privilege to judge the 2010 Hip Hop Karaoke Championship,” Buckshot told AllHipHop.com. “There is nothing harder in the business than getting up on that stage and performing to the masses. It takes awareness, confidence, clarity and, most importantly, breath control. These challengers are also faced with the obstacle of making the crowd believers. I'm anxious to see what songs each contestant will select to perform and if he/she will own that selection."

Manhattan Regionals In the Books

Thank you to everyone who came and sold out Mercury Lounge on Friday for the Hip Hop Karaoke Manhattan Regionals. It was a tough battle but congratulations to RDJ, Dashaun, Jason, Doni D, and K-Dot for earning the top scores. These 5 join Damali, Charlie, Thomas, Santiago, Diego, Jessica and defending champion Chef Lowe (seen here seconds before eating the trophy) at the Hip Hop Karaoke Championship January 29th at Irving Plaza. HHK 5-Year Anniversary Tonight!

Tonight is the last chance to try for a shot at the Hip Hop Karaoke Championship. Read the rules, brush up on your tracks, and come through to Mercury Lounge. Doors @ 8, sign-up from 9-10, show at 10. Don't forget the flyer to save some loot.

Also, it was 5 years ago today (almost). Sgt. Diggedy told the Wex to play. Hip Hop Karaoke is celebrating its 5-year anniversary tonight. Expect to see Wex with a Jameson shot, Diggedy with a Heineken and Other Guy with everything else. This is as good a time as any to leave your favorite HHK memories from the past 5 years in the Comments section. Off the top of my head:

Chef's bulging eyes after seeing the trophy for Hip Hop Karaoke Championship/RDJ performing Ghostface's "Run" in tennis gear and wallabies/that random skinny Asian dude at Rothko who surrounded himself with 4 girls during "Shake Ya Ass"/Brother Jim signing up as the first performer ever for "Insane in the Brain" (His first of 432 renditions [Love you, Jim, wherever you are])/The guy who beatboxed Slick Rick and told us after he's "been waiting 15 years to do that"/Van pulling out his inner Carrot Top and throwing out condoms during "Bonita Applebum"/Aktain aka Notorious D.R.E. making it rain on Biggie Tribute Night....shit, I could do this for hours...

This Friday night will be the last chance to get a slot on the 2nd ever Hip Hop Karaoke Championship.

Same format as the last regional in Brooklyn. 3 judges, 20 performances, and the top 5 scores advance to the Championship.

So far, we have Chef (defending his title), Charlie, Diego, Santiago, Damali, Thomas, & Jessica, all ready to go for January 29th at Irving Plaza. Well, I don't know if they're ready or not, but they ought to be getting ready! Ya'll DO know that Irving Plaza is a big stage, yea? 1,200 people in the house, type of thing. This ain't no joke.

This Friday. Mercury Lounge. The Manhattan Regional Round. Let's go.
